Homemade sourdough brownies are a delightful twist on traditional brownies, offering a rich, fudgy texture with a unique depth of flavor that comes from using sourdough starter.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
2 large eggs
1 cup active sourdough starter (discard or refreshed)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup chocolate chips or chunks (optional)
1/2 cup nuts (walnuts or pecans) (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8x8 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well-combined. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and sugar, stirring until the mixture is smooth and well-blended.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, stir in the sourdough starter and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
Gradually fold in the dry ingredients with a spatula or wooden spoon, mixing until just combined.
If desired, fold in chocolate chips or nuts for added texture and flavor.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Once baked, remove from the oven and allow the brownies to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Once cooled, cut into squares and enjoy your delicious homemade sourdough brownies!
