Sesame Chicken is a beloved dish in Chinese cuisine, known for its perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. This dish typically features tender chicken pieces coated in a crispy batter and tossed in a rich sesame sauce that brings a touch of umami.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 egg, beaten
Oil for frying (such as vegetable or canola oil)
1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
2 tablespoons sesame oil
1 tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon ginger, grated
Chopped green onions for garnish
Additional sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
Begin by marinating the chicken. In a bowl, combine the chicken pieces with salt, pepper, and the beaten egg. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
In a separate bowl, add the cornstarch. Coat each marinated chicken piece with cornstarch, ensuring an even layer.
Heat oil in a deep skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the chicken pieces in batches. Fry until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes per side.
While the chicken is frying, prepare the sesame sauce. In a saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
Once the sauce has thickened slightly, add the sesame seeds and stir well. Remove from heat.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the fried chicken with the sesame sauce, tossing until well-coated.
Serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions and additional sesame seeds.
