A delightful culinary adventure featuring creamy orzo, savory sausage, and nutrient-packed broccoli, making it a perfect choice for those seeking both taste and nutrition.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 cup orzo pasta
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
1 cup heavy cream
8 ounces Italian sausage, casings removed
2 cups fresh broccoli florets
1 small onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
In a large pot or deep skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
Stir in the Italian sausage, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes.
Add the broccoli florets and sauté for about 3 minutes until they turn bright green and are tender-crisp.
Sprinkle in the garlic powder, salt, and pepper, mixing well to combine.
Add the orzo pasta to the pot, stirring to coat it in the sausage and vegetable mixture.
Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth, bringing the mixture to a gentle simmer. Cover and let it cook for about 8-10 minutes, or until the orzo is al dente.
Once the orzo is cooked, reduce the heat to low and stir in the heavy cream until fully incorporated.
Gradually add the shredded mozzarella cheese, stirring until melted and creamy.
Remove from heat and let it sit for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
