Bananas in a Box is a delightful dessert that perfectly captures the essence of sweet and savory flavors, inspired by Asian grilling techniques. This innovative dish features caramelized bananas served in a unique presentation that will impress guests at any gathering.
Ingredients
Scale:
4 ripe bananas, preferably organic for the best flavor
2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed for optimal sweetness
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted for brushing
1 teaspoon cinnamon, preferably freshly ground for a more intense flavor
Pinch of salt, to enhance the sweetness and balance the flavors
1/2 cup coconut milk, full-fat recommended for creaminess
2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup, according to preference for sweetness
1 teaspoon vanilla extract, for a warm, aromatic note
Chopped nuts (e.g., walnuts or pecans), toasted for a crunchy texture
Fresh mint leaves, for a pop of color and refreshing flavor
Shredded coconut (optional), for extra tropical flair
Instructions
Preheat your grill to medium heat (about 350°F to 375°F).
Peel the bananas and slice them in half lengthwise.
In a small bowl, melt the butter and mix it with brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until combined.
Brush the banana halves generously with the butter mixture.
Place the bananas cut side down on the grill. Grill for 3-4 minutes until they develop nice grill marks.
Flip the bananas carefully using a spatula and grill for another 2-3 minutes.
While the bananas are grilling, prepare the sauce by combining coconut milk, honey or maple syrup, and vanilla extract in a small saucepan over low heat.
Once the bananas are grilled, remove them from the grill and drizzle with the warm coconut sauce.
Garnish with chopped nuts, mint leaves, and shredded coconut if desired.
